What is Educational Blogging? Educational blogging is a blog or weblog created for educational purposes. These Educational blogs can be used as instructional resources for students and teachers. The teachers can post tips, explanations, or samples to help students learn. Educational blogging is a fun way to discuss or provide examples that certain teachers have learned in their instruction or topics they have been able to discuss with their students. Benefits of educational blogging are: being able to promote self-expression, developing analytical thinking, creativity, improves writing skills, and encourages teachers and students to share different resources on different topics.
I was able to look at three of my classmates educational blogs and learned a lot of new information. First, I looked at Kennedy Hornes blog post about Virtual Schooling. Kennedy talks about the impact that Covid-19 has had on our education system. I learned in this blog that about 71% of students in virtual schooling found it more stressful. I know by personal experience that that is very true! One thing I took away from Kennedy's blog post was that any opportunity that you can to let the students have a social interaction is very helpful when it comes to virtual schooling because it helps tremendously with mental health. Next, I looked at Jennie Seamans blog on Special Education. Jennie explained that in a Special Education classroom, students come in all different shapes, sizes, and mental, emotional, and physical disabilities. She also talked about her personal experience with dyslexia and cerebral palsy, and how difficult it was for her in school. I learned about IDEA, which is an organization that provides funding and resources for student success, from Jennie's blog. Finally, I looked at Amari Snyder's blog on English Language Learners. Amari talked about how ELL, English Language Learners, are students that are learning English as an additional language than what they already know or speak. I learned in Amari's blog that English is not the United States official language, but most schools utilize English-only based instruction, which can hinder the students learning especially if their first language is not English. I enjoyed reading these blogs so much and learned about a lot of things from them.
I have enjoyed Educational blogging because I had to research more about the topics I wanted to talk about. I think it would be beneficial to my future classroom because I would be able to provide resources for other beginning teachers and teachers, like me, to discuss certain things going on in a real-time classroom. Educational blogging would also help students with researching, writing, and summarizing their thoughts about certain topics they want to discuss. Students would also develop not only their technology skills, but would also be able to expand their knowledge on educational topic. They would also be able to express their opinion on certain educational topics on a different platform where people would be able to see what they are learning and thinking about.
